To obtain PLT materials, you must attend a PLT workshop where the program is introduced, activities conducted and many more teaching resources provided. Training begins when a tree is planted and continues throughout the life of the tree. Then, add a finer, looser growing medium or soil above this. At the bottom of your empty pot, add a layer of coarse-grain soil as a base. Well-trained trees produce more fruit of higher quality than those that have not been trained. Before placing the tree in the pot, ensure it has a base of fresh, new soil to sit on that gives it the desired height.

PLT is designed to teach students HOW to think, not tell them what to think. Training, by contrast, allows the grower to shape the tree through branch positioning and pruning. They are correlated to both state and national educational standards, useful to formal and non-formal educators from pre-school through high school. PLT activities are hands-on interdisciplinary lessons that integrate easily into all subject areas. Students develop skills in creative problem solving, critical thinking, and evaluation and research while having fun. A decision tree starts at a single point (or ‘node’) which then branches (or ‘splits’) in two or more directions. In terms of data analytics, it is a type of algorithm that includes conditional ‘control’ statements to classify data. PLT uses the forest as a "window to the world," helping young people gain an awareness and knowledge of the world around them and their place within it. In its simplest form, a decision tree is a type of flowchart that shows a clear pathway to a decision. PLT can integrate easily into an existing curriculum and can be used to supplement all subject areas. All our tree workers are certified or licensed, and are required to complete extensive training at our facility.
